You just need to do 5 things:

Here’s the steps:

🎯 1: Pick a Target

You don’t need to know exactly what you’re making - you just need direction. Usually I get inspired by something I hear, and doing something in a similar energy becomes the target. If you are doing professional work, the project brief is the target.

• [ ] Find a few references - 1-3 is usually good
• [ ] Listen and feel the vibes in your body - start singing or humming from the energy you’ve absorbed. This is the start of your ideas.
• [ ] Write a creative sentence for your goal. I can’t tell you what this should be - but mine often have to do with learning something new from the track and using it as part of my catalog or sharing process.

💡 If you skip this, that’s okay - you’re just exploring without any guide posts. This will keep you on a straight path.

🧠 2**: Analyze References**

Learn how the music feels - and why it works.

Emotional

“This makes me feel like punching the wall but I’m happy about it!”

• [ ] What’s the feeling this gives me?
• [ ] What makes it feel that way?
• [ ] Where might you hear this “out in the world?” (club, store, sports, video game, campfire.)

Technical

“The bass moves in 8th notes, while the chords stay sustained - that contrast gives motion.”
